Site Work Begins at Old Acme

The Promenade will feature five retail tenants, including Anthropologie, and 26 apartments.

It’s a moment many in Newtown have been awaiting for years.

Site work has begun at The Promenade, a mixed-use development to be constructed at the site of the former Acme on Sycamore Street.

The project was approved in 2012 and the decaying building was torn down months later but construction stalled due to a sewer moratorium impacting Bucks County.

Trucks doing site work have been active throughout the past few weeks. Promenade spokeswomen Linda Mitchell confirmed the sewer approval hold up has been worked out.

Developers recently released an updated sketch of the development, which includes clothing and home decor retailer Anthropologie as the anchor tenant.

The targeted completion date for the project is January 2015.

When complete, The Promenade will feature 20,000 square feet of retail space. There will be five retail tenants, as well as 26 apartment units.

No full-service restaurants with liquor licenses will be permitted in the development.
