'Where's Waldo' Scavenger Hunt Kicks off July 1

The Newtown Bookshop is organizing a "Where's Waldo" Scavenger Hunt throughout Newtown during the month of July.

The Newtown Bookshop is organizing a “Where’s Waldo” Scavenger Hunt throughout Newtown starting July 1. The hunt, which will include the participation of 20 local businesses, goes through July 29. 

“Each business will hide a Waldo in their establishment, as the children find it at each location, they can get their passport signed,” explained Newtown Bookshop owner Kathy Morrison

“We will end the scavenger hunt with a celebration at the Newtown Bookshop on July 29t at 7 p.m., where there will be drawings for prizes,” Morrison said.

Children can pick up passports from the Newtown Bookshop and each participating business. It can also be downloaded from the bookshop’s website. 

Participating businesses include: Party Fair, The Learning Express, Children’s Clothing Patch, Newtown Hardware House, Sweet Pea, Greenstraw Smoothies, Newtown Library Company, Becky’s Newtown Deli, Newtown Bike Shop and more.

Players who collect store stamps or signatures from at least 10 different businesses and turn them in at the bookstore win an “I Found Waldo” sticker and will also receive a $1 off coupon for a future bookstore purchase.

Players who collect at least 16 out of the 20 possible stamps or signatures will win an “I Found Waldo” sticker and the $1 off coupon plus they will be entered in a drawing on July 29 for other larger prizes.

Prizes include: Waldo postcard books, a six-volume deluxe set of Waldo books, various books from the Newtown Bookshop, plus prizes from Creation Station, Great Harvest Bread Co and Becky’s Newtown Deli.

“This will be a fun game for the children to play in the summer, while promoting ‘shop local’ in Newtown,” Morrison said.
