Zoe's Kitchen, a Mediterranean-inspired restaurant chain, has been given the go-ahead from the township to open on Sycamore Street in the space formerly occupied by Cosi.
The eatery, which serves Mediterranean dishes with a Southern twist, needed conditional use approval from the township to open the restaurant in Goodnoe's Corner. The Newtown Township Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the conditional use application at a meeting Wednesday.
Zoe's Kitchen will be located next to Jules Thin Crust and, like Cosi, will share a patio for outdoor seating.
According to Zoe's Kitchen representative Brian Waghalter, the restaurant is a "fast casual concept" that is family-oriented and affordable with an average menu item price of less than $10.
Waghalter said everything served at Zoe's Kitchen is made in-house. The chain began in Alabama and now has 78 locations, Waghalter said.
According to its website, Zoe's Kitchen serves "Mediterranean-inspired comfort food" that keeps customers' dietary concerns in mind. There's nothing fried and gluten-free and vegetarian options are plentiful, according to the website.
The menu features soups, salads, hummus, pitas, sandwiches, dinner entrees, a kids menu and more.
This will be the first Zoe's Kitchen location in Pennsylvania. Other locations are presently operating in 12 states, including Virginia, Texas, Flordia and Arizona.
