Margiotti & Kroll Pediatrics, P.C. helps combat youth head injuries with a donation to the Northampton Indians

RICHBORO, PA – October 5, 2013 – Margiotti & Kroll Pediatrics, P.C., a leading provider of primary care pediatric medicine in the region and strong proponent of the ‘PLAY IT SAFE IN PA’ program that teaches player safety through 3 Ts (technique, training, and technology), announced today that it is giving back to the community with the donation of the GYROs™ from Unequal Technologies to the Northampton Indians Football Association.

Gerard Margiotti, Jr., MD, FAAP, President of Margiotti & Kroll Pediatrics emphasizes the importance of advancing head safety for children. “The incidence of head injuries suffered by children engaging in contact sports like football is staggering.  According to the CDC, concussions suffered during football account for one third of all reported sports-related concussions every year.  Our goal is to help improve player safety and mitigate injury in our community by making the protection used by professional athletes available to our children and by teaching them the 3 Ts.”

The donation of 200 Unequal GYROs will outfit all football players within the Northampton Indians Association.  “We are very happy to accept this donation as part of the state’s initiative to combat sport injuries,” said William Sifer, Treasurer of the Northampton Indians.  The Northampton Indians Football Association has proudly served the community for the past 35 years, offering both football and cheerleading programs for children ages 5-15. The coaching staff is dedicated to teaching the fundamentals of quality youth football & cheerleading, with emphasis on conditioning and sportsmanship, and special attention to the 3 Ts to help mitigate injury.  Northampton Indians Football & Cheerleading is a 100% volunteer, non‐profit organization.

Remember, head and body protection are the second line of defense.  Being careful and responsible is the first priority. Helmet and body pads do have limitations. No helmet pad can prevent or eliminate the risk of concussions or other serious head injuries while playing sports. Scientists have also not reached agreement on how the results of impact absorption tests relate to concussions.  No conclusions about a reduction of risk or severity of concussive injury should be drawn from impact absorption tests. Unequal products are not bulletproof, bullet resistant, stab resistant or stabproof.  Obey the rules and “Code of Conduct” of the particular sport, game or activity.  Use common sense and practice safe sports.
