5 Things You Need to Know (Long) Weekend Edition: Sept. 3-5

Essential information about the long weekend ahead.

1. Happy Labor Day weekend. The unofficial ending of summer is here.

2. The weather for the weekend may or may not cooperate. Saturday is expected to be sunny with temperatures in the mid-80s. There is a 40 percent chance of thunderstorms both Sunday and Monday.

3. Newtown Borough Businesses are bringing back this weekend. Beginning at 10 a.m. today, shops and restaurants on State Street will be having special deals and sidewalk sales.

4. If you're sticking around town this weekend, "Smurfs" is playing at the . Showtimes are at 3, 5 and 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. There is a Monday showtime at 6 p.m. The movie is rated PG and is 103 minutes. Click here for more information.

5. Local farms were impacted by last week's hurricane. However, some crops survived and will be available at this weekend's Wrightstown Farmers Market. Crops that will likely be available include watermelon, cantaloupe, sweet corn, tomatoes, peaches, pears, apples, potatoes, eggplant, leeks, mushrooms, winter squash, herbs and more. There will also be meats, eggs, honey, flowers, handmade soaps and more. The market is held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the lot adjacent to the Wrightstown Township Municipal Building on Second Street Pike.
