5 Things You Need to Know Today: April 26

Essential information about the day ahead in Newtown

1. Registration is still open for Newtown Parks and Recreation's Japanese Jujitsu class. The class, for kids six and older, begins Wednesday and will be held weekly until June 8.  The fee is $56 for residents, $70 for nonresidents. For more information or to register, visit www.newtownfun.com.

2. It's the last week to purchase your raffle tickets to protect clean water. The tickets are being sold at on State Street. They're $1 each and are good for the chance to win prizes like hair cuts, facials, and a gift bag of hair care products. Proceeds will benefit nonprofit Clean Ocean Action. Tickets will be on sale through April 30 and the drawing will be Tuesday, May 3.

4. There are two meetings tonight in Newtown Township. The Financial Planning Committee meets at 7:15 p.m. and the Technology Committee meets at 7:30 p.m. Both meetings are at the, 100 Municipal Drive.

5. The Newtown Borough Shade Tree Commission meets tonight at 7 p.m. at Council Chambers, 23 N State St.
