5 Things You Need to Know Today: April 5

Essential information about the day ahead in Newtown

1. The Newtown Township Planning Commission meets tonight at the municipal building at 7:30 p.m. The agenda includes land development plans for Bucks County Community College and the Newtown Athletic Club. For more details on the agenda, click here.

2. If the weather holds out, there are several Council Rock High School North sports games today. Boys baseball plays William Tennent High School, boys lacrosse plays Archbishop Wood High School, and girls softball plays William Tennent High School. The track teams play Abington High School, and the boys volleyball team also plays Abington.

3. Check out the 16th Annual Bucks County High School Art Exhibition at the Hicks Art Center Gallery on the Bucks County Community College's Newtown Campus. On Tuesdays, the gallery is open late -- from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. High school art teachers throughout Bucks County have selected works by their students to be entered into the exhibit. The awards reception is on April 31, from 2 to 4 p.m. Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick will do the presentation of awards at the reception.

4. If you happen to be near the college's Newtown Campus today, stop by for the Phi Theta Kappa student honor society bake sale. Various baked goods will be for sale at the Gateway Lobby from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and then again from 4:30 to 6 p.m. All proceeds benefit the student honor society.

5. If you're thinking of registering your children for one of the Newtown Parks and Recreation's summer camps, there's just 10 days left to do so at the early bird price. The six-week day camps are for children from age 4 to 8th grade. For more information, visit www.newtownfun.com.
