5 Things You Need to Know Today: June 17

Essential information about the day ahead in Newtown.

1.'s summer reading program will begin next week. Through Aug. 1, children can record the minutes they read each week and earn prizes. The grand prize is a family vacation to Great Wolf Lodge. Reading logs are now available for pick up at the library.

2. Start the weekend out on a healthy note at ' Happy Hour Workout. The full-body workout, which will be held outside weather permitting, starts at 4:30 p.m. There's no additional fee for members; drop in rate is $10.

3. The 's Poetry Group meets tonight at 8 p.m. at the library.
