5 Things You Need to Know Today: June 9

Essential information about the day ahead in Newtown.

1. If you thought yesterday was hot, today is going to be even hotter. With the humidity factored in, forecasters say it will feel like 100 degrees today. That's record high temperatures for this time of year. Stay cool and indoors if possible.

2. Because of the heat, some Council Rock elementary schools without air conditioning will dismiss early. The following elementary schools will close early today: Goodnoe, Sol Feinstone, Holland, Hillcrest, Richboro, and Wrightstown. Dismissal will begin at 12:15 p.m. and will occur like any other half-day schedule.  There will be no afternoon kindergarten and morning kindergarten students will be dismissed at 12:15 along with the other grades.

4. The Book Group meets tonight at 7:30 in the Study Lounge in the Lower Level of the Rollins Student Center. The book to be discussed is Room by Emma Donoghue. The group is free and open to the public.
