Essential information about the day ahead in Newtown

1. Today is the first day of March. We can now truthfully assure ourselves that spring is just around the corner.

2. Speaking of spring, if you're looking to spruce up your place for the new season, registration is still open for Newtown Township Parks and Recreation's "Simple Stylish Sewing for the Home" class. Learn how to make pillows and valances. The first two-week session begins Thursday (March 3) and will focus on pillow. To register or for more information, go to www.newtownfun.com.

3. Starting today, Transcend Fitness will offer a Tuesday morning Zumba class. The class, taught by Hayes Honer, will be held from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m.

4. The Council Rock Boys varsity basketball team competes tonight in the District 1 Semifinals against Plymouth Whitmarsh at Villanova. The game starts at 6 p.m.
