5 Things You Need to Know Weekend Edition: August 27 and 28

Essential information about the weekend ahead in Newtown.

1. Hurricane Irene is headed our way, which will make for lousy weekend weather. Rain is expected Saturday. The hurricane is expected to hit the region early Sunday, bringing with it heavy rain and wind.

2. Are you prepared for the storm?

3. If you have a Council Rock School District student who's headed to their first day of school Monday, be sure to check with the district Sunday night to see if there are any changes to the schedule due to the storm.

4. The Mary Kate's Legacy 5K race that was originally scheduled for Sunday has been postponed until Oct. 9.
