It’s been two years since The Capelli Shop opened its hair salon on State Street and owners Matt DiBartolo and Joey Festa want to celebrate that milestone while helping others.

On Saturday, June 4, The Capelli Shop will host a second anniversary celebration and fundraiser for the Carson Scholars Fund. The celebration will be from 2 to 7 p.m. at the shop, located at 13 North State Street. It is free and open to the public.

During the event, customers and community members can purchase raffle items, with the proceeds going directly to the Greater Philadelphia Chapter of the Carson Scholars Fund.

The nonprofit organization provides college scholarships for deserving Bucks County students in fourth grade and up. All donations received from the event will go towards that effort. Newtown residents John Green and Michael Cosack founded the Greater Philadelphia Chapter of the Carson Scholars Fund in 2009.

In addition to being a fundraiser for a good cause, the June 4 celebration has entertainment and refreshments. It will feature free gelato, an art exhibit with works by local artist Steven Vainberg, new product samples, and demonstrations.

DiBartolo and Festa were long-time friends who, two years ago, took the leap to go into business together. They spent more than three months renovating the former Calabrese Beauty Salon to give the space a new name and look. Now, the interior of The Capelli Shop is more reminiscent of a hip urban salon than grandma’s beauty parlor.

The salon offers cuts and styles for both men and women. It won 2009 “Best of Philly” for its long hair cut. The salon is open Tuesday to Friday from 9 to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 8 to 4 p.m.
