Cinco for Cinco de Mayo

Here's five ways to celebrate Cinco de Mayo locally today.

Contrary to popular belief, Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico's Independence Day. It actually marks the Mexican Army's victory over the French during the battle of Puebla in 1862.

But it's still a good excuse to drink a few Coronas. Here are cinco ways to celebrate locally today:

1. Lily's Cucina Loca, which serves Mexican food in a cozy and distinctive location off Sycamore Street, has several specials in light of today's holiday. Lily's is offering half-price margaritas until 7 p.m. Or, if you prefer beer, get five Coronas for $20 or five Coronitas for $7. For more information about Lily's Cucina Loca, click here.

4. Maybe you don't like margaritas and Coronas aren't your thing either but you want to go out for a good time. There's a special event at tonight that's especially for moms. The event, called MomMe Time, will be from 7 to 9 p.m. and is open to all. It will feature food, wine, shopping, and entertainment.  Event organizer Lori Allison will also put on a comedy routine. 5. If you're a music lover, then celebrate Cinco de Mayo at , where world-renowned, Philadelphia native Uri Caine will perform with his trio at 8 p.m. FYI, it's not Latin music, though. The trio will perform modern jazz. Tickets are $10. Click here to purchase tickets.
