Entertainment Announced For Independence Day Celebration

Live music, a disc jockey, food, and more will be a part of the First Fourth celebration.

Organizers are offering details about entertainment and food vendors to be featured at Newtown’s First Fourth celebration on Saturday, July 2. The day will feature a parade on Sycamore Street and a block party and fireworks at Newtown Middle School.

The parade will start at 3 p.m. near Old St. Andrew’s Church and go down Sycamore Street to the Green Parrot, said First Fourth planning committee chairman Joe Gordon.

After the parade, the festivities will continue at Newtown Middle School, where a block party will begin at 4 p.m. The party will feature a disc jockey and live music by Meg’s Melodies. Best Darned Kettle Corn, Drinks and More, and a barbecue vendor will provide refreshments. A township versus borough softball game begins at 4 p.m.

Parade participants should be there between 2 and 2:30 p.m. so they can be lined up, Gordon said, adding the parade will include antique vehicles, fire trucks, re-enactors, and more.

Those interested in participating in the bike decorating contest should arrive at the parking lot of the old Stockburger Chevrolet on Syacmore Street between 2 and 2:30 p.m.

Bike decorating awards will be given out at about 8:30 p.m., Gordon said.

At 9:15 p.m., there will be a reading of the Declaration of Independence.

The fireworks will begin at 9:30 p.m. following the Declaration of Independence.

Parking for the fireworks is $5. Proceeds from the fee benefit the Civil Air Patrol Squadron 101 based out of Lower Bucks County, which is helping to direct parking.  Fireworks parking will be at Council Rock High School North.

Gordon said the First Fourth committee is still seeking local businesses to sponsor the festivities. A $500 donation will enable businesses to have a banner in the parade as well as up at the fireworks. Plus, sponsoring businesses will get two VIP passes to the fireworks, Gordon explained.

Another way to help is by volunteering to set up that day. Gordon said the planning committee is seeking people to help set up at the Middle School. If you are interested in helping, contact Marlowe Gordon at Marne136gordon@gmail.com.
