Father's Day Gift Ideas For All Types Of Dads

Running out of ideas to surprise dad? Try one these ideas and put a big smile on his face this Father's Day.

If you're in a panic because you still need to plan a Father's Day gift, you can relax. We've compiled a list of local things to do and creative gifts to give dad this father's day.

FOR THE BEER-LOVING DAD 

Beer train

Climb aboard the New Hope/Ivyland Railroad for a 45-minute beer-tasting tour. The train will feature ales, lagers, seasonal, micro and craft brews from around the world. You will also get to sample the brew master’s platter, which includes bratwurst, sauerkraut, pretzel rivets, smoked cheeses, chips, nuts, and a variety of dips. 

Passengers must be 21 years old. Tickets start at $38 for the 45-minute ride. After you finish, walk off the treats with a stroll through downtown New Hope.

Isaac Newton's growler

Want to bring dad some of his favorite brew? Grab a 64-ounce growler and fill it with one of Isaac Newton's many beer selections.  Beers range from $15 to $40 (plus the cost of the growler, which is $18) and dad can bring the growler back anytime to refill it (the refill will cost the amount of the beer). The pub calls it “the gift that keeps on giving.”

FOR THE ADVENTUROUS DAD

Pack a picnic lunch and head up to watch the vintage airplanes at Van Sant Airport in Erwinna.  For $110, dad can take a glider ride and for $175 he can  ride in a vintage airplane. He can even pilot a plane there or he can just sit back, realx and watch the planes coming and departing.

FOR THE SPORTS-LOVING DAD

Trenton Thunder 

If you have a baseball-loving dad, check out the Trenton Thunder. Tickets usually run from $11 to $30 and even though they are not in town this weekend, they will be heading back in a week. Parking usually costs $2 to $5 per vehicle.

FOR THE FOODIE DAD 

Bucks County Food Tours

Give dad a gift he’ll never forget. For $95 per person, you get a five-hour tour, complete with transportation and lunch. Most tours run Fridays and Sundays and can be personalized to fit your tastes. The tour company asks for a four-person minimum.

FOR THE ACTIVE DAD

Disc golf at Tyler State Park 

If you need a gift for someone who is active, then consider a frisbee golf set. They can use it at Tyler State Park, which boasts a 27-hole disc golf course. The course begins by the Upper Plantation Picnic Area. Course maps with rules and scorecards are available at the park office and at the Upper Plantation Picnic Area. If you need to buy discs, just drop by a sporting good store. They usually run $5 to $20 each.

If Saturday works better, the park holds a weekly morning disc golf game. It begins at 10 a.m. and costs $5 to participate.

Ride bikes or walk along the canal

Hop onto the 60-mile canal path, which runs from New Hope to Yardley to Bristol and beyond.

GIFTS FOR KIDS TO MAKE

Tool box, made with love 

The Home Depot is holding a special Father’s Day workshop Saturday for kids. They'll be able to make dad a toolbox he’ll treasure. This free workshop is geared toward kids ages 5 to 12 and will be held from 9 a.m. to noon. After the project is complete, fill the new tool box up with some new tools dad may be needing at home. Coupon book 

Print out this free coupon book for dad and have kids fill in the blanks of chores they can do to give dad a hand around the house. Kids can color and customize each of the coupons to fit dad’s needs.
