Beware of FBI Agent Impostor Scam Phone Calls

The hoax is the latest in impostor scams in which a person pretends to be someone they are not in order to get money and personal account information.

More residents have been targets of a known phone scam, Newtown Township police said.

Police received two separate complaints of suspicious phone calls in which a man said he was an FBI agent and there were arrest warrants for each of the individuals. 

A similar scam was reported to the department in May.

According to published reports, the hoax is the latest in impostor scams in which a person pretends to be someone they are not in order to get money and personal account information.

When one of the residents told the caller he would check with his local police about the situation, the caller hung up, according to police.

“Police are aware of this sort of scam where the caller eventually asks for money in order to void the alleged warrant,” information from Newtown Township police said. 

Several incidences of a similar scam were recently reported in Illinois and Connecticut.
