Fireworks, Parades Part of Region's Memorial Day Celebrations

Newtown's Memorial Day parade is Monday. Catch some fireworks tonight over the Delaware River in Lambertville or New Hope.

If you’re not packing up and heading to the shore this weekend, there’s plenty to do to celebrate Memorial Day locally.

Here’s a roundup of events in the Newtown area:

FRIDAY

Check out some fireworks tonight over the Delaware River. New Hope and Lambertville’s 15-week Friday night fireworks display kicks off at 9:30 p.m.  Fireworks can be seen each Friday nights until Sept. 2.

SATURDAY

If you want to relive history, there will be a Civil War re-enactment in Doylestown Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and again on Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. at the Mercer Museum.

SUNDAY

Take the kids to Sesame Place, where they’re having a barbeque at 5:30 p.m. Dinner includes an all-you-can-eat buffet of barbeque chicken, smoked beef brisket, hamburgers, hot dogs, corn on the cob, mashed potatoes, mac n' cheese, salads, rolls, beverages and desserts. Reservations are required.  Barbeque is $24.95 for adults and $16.95 for kids, plus park admission. Children under 2 are free but require a reservation. Dinner takes place outside at Big Bird’s Riverside Pavilion. For more information, visit www.sesameplace.com.

MONDAY

The Newtown Memorial Day parade kicks off at 9 a.m. The parade, organized by American Legion Post 440, starts at the Commons West Building on Newtown-Yardley Road. From there, the parade will go through the Newtown Cemetery, where a short ceremony will be held. Then, the marchers will head down Elm to Washington, then Lincoln to Centre.  From Centre it will go down Congress and to State. The parade will end at Post 440 on Linden Ave.

In Northampton Township, there will be a Memorial Day ceremony Monday at 9 a.m. The ceremony will take place at Robert H. Dembowski Jr. Veterans Memorial Park on Second Street Pike and Almshouse Road. It will feature the color guard, remarks by township officials, and a wreath laying.
