First Fourth Fireworks in Question Due to Lack of Funding

Newtown's First Fourth celebration, which will be held July 7, may not feature the usual fireworks display, organizers say.


Newtown’s annual Fourth of July fireworks are in jeopardy due to a lack of funding, organizers say.

According to event organizer Paul Salvatore, the parade is still on. It’s the fireworks, which come with a $3,500 price tag, that are in question.

celebrations are scheduled for Saturday, July 7.

Salvatore said the First Fourth fireworks have been an annual tradition for the past 12 years. But with the sluggish economy, businesses have less money to dole out for sponsorships, putting the event in question this year.

Despite sending out sponsorship letters, Salvatore said the event planning committee hasn’t received enough support to commit to booking the fireworks show.

A decision regarding the feasibility of holding the fireworks show will be made within the next two weeks, he said.

I'm sure there will be a business or two out there that will help sponsor the fireworks for the July 4th celebration. $3500 isn't an outrageous amount.
