Want to get an up-close glimpse into where exactly your fresh food comes from?

The Bucks County Foodshed Alliance, an organization dedicated to fostering and expanding the local food supply, has organized the second in its series of farm evenings. The farm evenings are a chance to meet local farmers and enjoy a guided tour of their facilities.

On Wednesday, July 6, two small farms in Pipersville -- Purely Farm and Just One Seed – will be featured in the summer series.

The summer farm evenings start with a potluck dinner at 6:30 p.m. A guided tour begins at 7:30 p.m.

At Purely Farm, farmers Joanna and Marc Michini raise pastured pork, lamb, chicken, turkey and eggs. Last year, the Michinis launched a rabbit production operation with assistance from a Sierra Club grant awarded through the Bucks County Foodshed Alliance, supplying primarily area restaurants.

Just One Seed is an organic and biodynamic garden and small CSA (Community Supported Agriculture).  The farm grows fruit, flowers, medicinal and culinary herbs and vegetables. It also provides clients with garden and edible landscapes education and design.

According to the Foodshed Alliance, Just One Seed farmer Eve Minson redesigned the CSA as a “you-pick” operation with individual prepared plots for members. In 2010, the farm used a BCFA/Sierra Club grant to establish a high tunnel operation that will extend its growing season.

There is no charge to attend the farm tour and no need to register for the event, which is appropriate for all ages. Just bring a picnic dish to share and your own beverages, eating equipment, and seating.

Purely Farm and Just One Seed are located at 55 and 55A Municipal Road, between Smithtown and Tory Roads in Pipersville.

In the event of severe weather, check the BCFA website for updates: www.BucksCountyFoodshedAlliance.org.

Can't make it next week? Don't worry, there are two more farm evenings scheduled for later this summer: Aug. 3 at Shady Brook Farm in Yardley and Sept. 7 Snipes Farm and Education Center in Morrisville.
