Italian Restaurant to Open at Former Palate

Trattoria Tiramisu is taking over the space on State Street formerly occupied by Palate, which closed in November.

An Italian restaurant is slated to open on State Street, where Palate used to be located. Palate closed in November.

A sign posted on the window of 31 South State St. says Trattoria Tiramisu will be opening at the location.

The sign says "coming soon" however further attempts to reach the owners were unsuccessful.

A Facebook page has been created for the restaurant, however. The user comments include one from Feb. 20 saying the restaurant is moving from Chalfont. "Best Italian restaurant I've ever been to...Chalfont's loss is Newtown's gain. You guys are extremely lucky to be getting these guys," the user posted.

Palate came and went pretty quickly, it seemed.

Not sure I'm excited about another Italian restaurant on State St and in the area!

Another Italian restaurant? Why? Someone should count Italian restaurants in Newtown and compare the count to other cuisines. I'll bet it's over 80% Italian

Would love to have a good Indian restaurant in town. Glad the space isn't going to be empty for long, though.
Good luck to Trattoria Tiramisu and welcome to the area.

I'm glad it's not another typical organic-multigrain-foo foo-salad place. BUT........
Great! Newtown doesn't have enough Italian restaurants. I wonder if the menu will have French Onion, Calimari, Veal Parmesean and Tiramisu? Because we don't have *any* restaurants with that menu

Yes DW, a good Indian would be welcome. I've read about Jaffron in New Hope but never been yet. A good friend of mine owns and Indian restaurant and it's tough to make a living. Indian hasn't become mainstream like pizza or chinese. People in offices don't say "let's send out for indian" so much. Also soda and beverages don't sell well at Indian places. But yes, would be nice. FWIW in Lawrenceville NJ I've been to Shahi Palace. Pretty good.

Want Indian food go to Dunkin donuts, and see if you get what you ordered, or try 7-11 you can pick your cumin spiced dog right off the rollers.

Just what we need in Newtown ANOTHER Italian restaurant! What we need is a GOOD Mexican place.
Alex G March 6, 2013 at 06:22 pm
LOL!

Kara- re the facebook posts, I understand the chef/owner is the former chef at Tutto Mario in Chalfont.

Alex G, there's a national chain Mexican restaurant, Qdoba, opening in Village at Newtown (the chain restaurants are descending on Newtown en masse these days), but look at the vacancy next to Ota Ya (behind 7-11) for a great LOCAL chef opening a new, exciting Mexican restaurant experience...

Mexican food is terrible !
boro biz owner March 7, 2013 at 12:04 am
Oh wow, THE VOICE has spoken. Gee, I guess those of us who love Mexican food will just have to stop eating it because you don't like it....excuse me, I have to finish making tacos for dinner.
the VOICE March 7, 2013 at 12:22 am
Indian food sucks, too !
Alex G March 7, 2013 at 10:57 am
Boro Biz Owner - I know Qdoba is opening. I was hoping for GOOD Mexican, not a glorified Taco Bell.

Which is why I gave you the heads up to watch the former La Vita location, Alex- I've never been to a Qdoba, but I'm not thrilled by chain stores

I Can't believe I'm wasting my time giving "The Voice" the satisfaction writing this response in his trashing of my wife's deli calling her food "garbage". Becky's Deli, a small business that has been serving the local community for 30+ years must have something going for it for being around for so long. Nuf said. "The Voice", a person that hides under the veil of secrecy saying derogatory things certainly is a coward and must have issues and I'm sorry you do, perhaps you can seek help.
Kara, I'm apologize for my rant but this person sometimes is offensive and takes away from the awesome news and dialogue you have on the Patch. Good luck to Trattoria Tiramisu

Hi, just for clarification I just deleted that comment because it violates our terms of use, i.e. personal attack

Best of Luck to all of the new businesses coming in to Newtown. So many of us appreciate your investment in our community! Our family loves to eat and shop here and bring friends and family from other towns. The variety keeps people wanting to come back, as well as having well established businesses to rely on! Thank you and we are looking forward to enjoying some new experiences!
