Local Churches and Synagogues Partner To Help Unemployed

The Newtown-based Network for Building Community, made up of a collaboration of churches and synagogues, will host two job fairs over the next few weeks.

A neighbor taking the time to reach out a helping hand to another neighbor. That’s the story of the Good Samaritan. And that's the idea behind Network for Building Community, a diverse group of local faith-based organizations.

Network for Building Community assists unemployed and underemployed residents in finding new jobs.  And what started in Newtown with the support of Newtown Friends Meeting and Tzedek v’ Shalom in 2009 has grown into a growing network of nine synagogues and churches in neighboring communities.

Among the group’s sponsors and supporters are: Congregation Brothers of Israel; Congregation Shir Ami; Newtown Presbyterian Church; Washington Crossing United Methodist Church; and Congregation Kol Emet in Yardley.

If you can't get over there today and are looking for employment, there's another chance locally to attend a job fair.

Washington Crossing United Methodist Church is sponsoring a job fair on June 27. The Second Annual Bucks County Job Fair will feature employers with everything from entry level and management positions. The Bucks County Job Fair will also offer networking opportunities and workshops on LinkedIn, resume writing, and other community resources.

The free event will be held at Washington Crossing United Methodist Church, 1895 Wrightstown Road. Employers and job seekers should pre-register at www.buckscountyjobfair.com or by calling 215-493-5080.

About 400 job seekers and nearly 30 companies attended last year’s job fair.

In addition to job fairs, Network for Building Community provides an ongoing resource for job-hunting tools, tips on job leads, mentoring groups, and community resources.  For more information, visit www.networkforbuildingcommunity.org.
