More than 60 Shop Windows Painted for Halloween

The annual Newtown Halloween Art Scene event was held Oct. 20 and featured window painting, scarecrow making and a cupcake contest.

More than 150 people participated in the Newtown Halloween Art Scene event Saturday and about 62 windows on State and Sycamore streets were painted. Seven people entered the scarecrow contest and there were nine entries for the cupcake contest. Felix of Felix's Caketeria helped judge and the winning recipe will be featured at his bakery this Saturday.

Event sponsors included Goodnoe Dairy, Isaac Newton's, Milk Money, Zebra Striped Whale, Countryside Framing & Radhouse Studio, Green Parrot, Newtown Pro Shop, Newtown Book & Record Exchange, George's Floor Covering and Newtown Optical.

Cupcake winners:

First Prize: "The Goddess of Chandler Hall" created by Llenroc Building at Chandler Hall and Karen Lawler

Second Prize: "Waikiki Willie" created by Bobbi Lewis and Cyndi Rhodin

Painted window winners:

Adult First Prize: “Isaac Newton’s” by Kenneth Kraft and Ingrid Torres

Group (Family): “Temperance House” by Nicole and Kama Branka

Group First Prize: “Belle Abielle” by Allison Sirota

Group Second Prize: “First National Bank” by Anna Evinski and Laura Kwasnoski 

Since many of the windows in Newtown are challenging in that they have multiple panes, we created a special award for those intrepid painters.

Paintings on a Multi-Paned Window, Second Prize: “Ned’s Cigar Store” by Bill Tidwell and his daughter

Another special award was created for those paintings depicting the merchant’s products.
