Plenty of Fairs, Festivals, and Outdoor Events on Tap

Mark your calendars now for some great spring and summer events coming up in Newtown.

It's spring, which means lots of outdoor fun and community events. Newtown has a slew of great events coming up in the next few months, so be sure to mark your calendars now. Here's what's on tap:

  • The Newtown Bluegrass Festival is Sunday, May 1 at the . The festival will feature two performances from Straight Drive and the James King Band.  There’s an afternoon performance at 2:30 p.m. and one in the evening at 7:30 p.m. But the performance at the Newtown Theatre is just one part of the festivities. Prior to each show, there will be a Bluegrass Party Jam at ’s that will feature live music, a special barbecue menu, and drink specials. The pre-party at Isaac’s is from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. and from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. For more information about the festival, go to www.newtownbluegrass.com.
  • The first-ever Washington Crossing Brewfest will be held Saturday, May 14 from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. along the Delaware River in Washington Crossing Historic Park. More than 50 breweries will be there to offer tastings. Plus, there will be live music and food. Participating breweries include Allagash, Brooklyn Brewery, Flying Fish, Harpoon, Otter Creek, Triumph, Riverhorse, Long Trail, Sierra Nevada, and more.   • If you don't like beer but are a wine lover, then you'll have your fun the next day. The Bucks County Wine Trail will hold its Spring Tour Sunday, May 15 from noon until 5 p.m. in Newtown and in Washington Crossing are participating in the tour, along with seven other Bucks County wineries. Tickets are $20 in advance and can be purchased at any of the participating wineries. Tickets are $30 the day of the event. For more information visit www.buckscountywinetrail.com.
  • Then, on Saturday, May 21, the Newtown Corporation is hosting the second annual Newtown Uncorked festival at the . The event will feature wine tastings from Bucks County and regional vineyards, food from local restaurants, and live entertainment. It will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Tickets for Newtown Uncorked are on sale at www.allaboutnewtown.org.
  • And on Sunday, May 22, it's Welcome Day 2011. The street fair and business showcase event, hosted by the Newtown Business and Professional Association, will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sycamore Street. This is the first year Welcome Day will be on Sycamore Street. In the past, it was held on State Street. For more information or to display your crafts, visit www.newtownbpa.org.
  • Once again the Sycamore Street Association will be "Takin' it to the Street" with its Second Annual Summerfest Blockparty on Saturday, June 4 from 3 to 9 p.m. The event will feature more than 45 street vendors, live music, food, and amusements for the kids, including face-painting, a balloon artist, a caricature artist and more.
