Police: Shoplifter Caught at Genuardi's and Dispute at Car Wash

Recent activity as reported by the Newtown Township Police Department.

Monday, August 22

Around 5:15 p.m., police responded to Sparkle Car Wash on Swamp Road for a customer dispute. When the officer arrived, he spoke to the customer, who reported that his vehicle had damage to both sides of it when it came out of the car wash.  The manager of the car wash explained to the unhappy customer that since the machines use cloth to clean the vehicles the scratches were not caused there.  The officer advised the customer to file a civil complaint at District Court. 

Police were dispatched to the 7-11 on Sycamore Street shortly after 5:30 p.m. for a complaint that there were several juveniles loitering in the parking lot playing loud music.  The responding officer did not find any problems.

Tuesday, August 23

At approximately 2:10 a.m., a resident of Hansel Road reported a suspicious vehicle in the area.  The caller said the vehicle was being driven up and down the street pulling in and out of driveways then stopped in the roadway.  When the officer arrived at the location the caller told him that the vehicle was no longer in the area.  Police checked the surrounding area but did not locate the motorist.

Police were dispatched to the Woods of Saxony development at 4:30 a.m. for a report of four of five juveniles walking around the area. The caller said they heard loud banging noises.  The caller met officers when they arrived and advised them that the teens had headed toward the open space near Saxony Drive and Greenbriar Lane.  Officers from other police departments arrived to assist with searching for the juveniles but there they were not located.  Shortly before 8 a.m., police received a call from a resident of Greenbriar Lane reporting that she had found firecrackers in her mailbox.  The caller said there was no damage to the mailbox, but she had seen the police in the area at the time she found the firecrackers.  The officer reminded the resident that in the future it is best to call police at the time she finds anything suspicious.

An anonymous caller reported that someone was riding a dirt bike on the PECO property on Linton Hill Road around 7:40 p.m.  The responding officer located a subject pushing a dirt bike on Lower Dolington Road in the rear of Burgundy Lane. The officer spoke to the parents and they were advised that no one is permitted to ride their dirt bikes on the PECO property at any time.

Wednesday, August 24

Shortly after 11 a.m., police responded to Sebastian Alley for a complaint that a vehicle with an Indiana registration has been parked on the street for over a month. The caller thought it had been abandoned there.  The responding officer identified the owner who lives nearby on Hart Alley and made contact with him.  The owner agreed to get the car moved from the area.

At approximately 4:45 p.m., police were dispatched to Genuardi’s Market for a report of a retail theft.  When the officer arrived, he learned that store employees had the subject detained.  The employee told the officer that he watched the man, identified as 55 year-old Aleksandr Fogel of Crittenden Drive in Newtown Township, place merchandise in the interior pockets of his jacket and leave without paying for it.  The recovered items were valued at $39.35.   Fogel was required to respond to police headquarters where a criminal history check was performed, the results showed no previous offenses.  Fogel was released after he was informed that he would receive a citation in the mail charging him with retail theft. 

Thursday, August 25

Around 11:30 p.m., police received a complaint from a resident of Newtown Borough that the loud music coming from La Stalla’s outside bar area was disturbing her.  Police responded to the restaurant and advised the manager to have the disc jockey reduce the volume of the music.  No further complaints were received. 

Friday, August 26

Police responded to a complaint of juveniles setting off fireworks on Wrightstown Road shortly before 11:30 p.m.  The officer parked in the area and observed the property in question but no fireworks were heard or seen.

Saturday, August 27

Police responded to Black Oak Mews shortly before 5 a.m. for a report that there were adults fighting inside and outside of a residence.  The responding officer made contact with the subjects and determined there was a party and two of the men there were involved in a dispute that became physical.  The two were separated and one decided to leave.  No further complaints were received. 

Sunday, August 28

Police received continuous calls of trees and wires down, power outages and flooded roadways in Newtown and Wrightstown townships.  The situations were addressed with assistance from both Public Works Departments.  PECO was notified of downed wires.   

Monday, August 29

Shortly after 6 a.m., a resident of North Park Road reported that two unlocked vehicles parked at his home were entered sometime overnight.  Contents within the vehicles were thrown about and a GPS unit was taken.  A resident of Parkview Way called to report that someone entered his garage overnight and stole a briefcase and a wallet.  The victim explained that he was last in his garage at 8:30 p.m. and believed he may have left the garage door open.  He told police that he went into his garage this morning around 5:30 a.m. and discovered his black briefcase and wallet were missing.  The missing items had been on a table near the front of the garage.  Around 7:15 a.m., a resident of Skyview Way called police to report that her unlocked vehicle was parked in her driveway overnight and this morning she found that her XM portable radio and $20 were missing and someone had gone through the console of the vehicle.
