Security Improvements Underway at Council Rock Schools

Security improvements, including additional video cameras, secure vestibules, panic buttons and more, were approved over the past few months by the Council Rock School Board.

A series of security improvements at Council Rock schools should be completed by October, district officials said.

Security improvements, including additional video cameras, secure vestibules, panic buttons and more, were approved over the past few months by the Council Rock School Board.

The security improvements also include a visitor access system and secured access points to allow for card swipe systems at main entrances.

“This will allow for greater security in schools and better access controls for all doors that are entrances to our school facilities.  It will also allow us to control access to before and after school programs—avoiding open doors at off hours in our schools,” according to information from the district.

In addition, secure vestibules will be created at each school. The secure vestibules will require a secretary or other employee to review the visitor access system before allowing the person inside.

“This will be accomplished by a locking system on the door from the office to the school that can be released only by the office personnel,” according to the district.

The district has added staff, too.  Two security personnel will be added, as well as two elementary counselors.  In addition, the district will hire two middle school student assistance coordinators.

“These coordinators will augment services in our middle schools for students who show at-risk behaviors,” according to information from the district.
