Skate Park to Reopen With Test Run

The Supervisors agreed to hold a preliminary reopening of the park, which has been closed since late March due to noise complaints.

A preliminary reopening of the municipal Skate Park will likely be held later this week, Newtown Township officials said Monday. But the township is taking a wait-and-see approach when it comes to opening the park for good.

At a Board of Supervisors meeting Monday, officials said they intend to open the park for two hours as a test run. Residents will be invited to the park, which was closed in March because of noise complaints, during the preliminary reopening to listen to skaters on the ramps.

Township Manager Joe Czajkowski said the final touches to the noise deafening improvements should be done by the end of the week. Supervisors Chair Rob Ciervo asked him to let the community know when the park would be ready for the preliminary reopening.

In April, the township hired Joseph Horesco of Acentech in Trevose to do a sound baseline test, which was expected to cost between $900 to $1,300.  Township Engineer Michele Fountain said she has been in touch with the sound engineering firm to express the supervisors' concerns that a report from the test, done April 21, has not yet been submitted to the township.

The Skate Park, located behind Staples off the Newtown Bypass, opened in October.
