Newtown Historic Association to discuss Bryn Athyn railroad disaster of 1921, Council Rock's Finance Committee meets Thursday

Monday:  The monthly meeting of the Newtown Historic Association will be held tonight and it will feature a presentation on the Bryn Athyn railroad disaster by the Southampton Railroad Station Society. In the winter of 1921, a passenger train wreck occurred on the Newtown Line, killing a few Newtown residents and injuring many others. The public is invited and refreshments will be served. Thursday: The Council Rock School District will hold Facilities and Finance Committee meetings tonight starting at 6 p.m. The district is currently working on its budget for the 2011-2012 school year and is facing a $14.2 million deficit due to reductions in state aid and a loss of revenue.

Friday: There’s already several things planned around town to get your weekend off to a good start. The Temperance House will have live music by Stems and Seeds starting at 8:30 p.m., Transcend Fitness will have a Friday afternoon Happy Hour Workout at 4:30 p.m., and “Gnomeo and Juliet” opens at the Newtown Theatre.
