Three Big Events in Newtown This Weekend

Newtown Veterans Park dedication and Newtown Uncorked are Saturday. Welcome Day is Sunday.

There is a lot going on in Newtown this weekend. Check out our events calendar for a full listing of happenings. In the meantime, here's a few highlights that you won't want to miss.

Newtown Township will dedicate Newtown Veterans Park Saturday at 10 a.m. The park is located on Durham Road (Route 413) across the street from the Clark Nature Center.  The park contains a memorial as well as ball fields. Each ball field is named after a branch of the military. Local Eagle Scout Ryan Varian has coordinated the fundraising and installation of eight flagpoles (for each of the armed services) and a 12-foot brick wall naming the park.

The second annual Newtown Uncorked event will be held Saturday at the . The event, sponsored by the Newtown Corporation, will feature wine tastings from Bucks County and regional vineyards, food from local restaurants, and live entertainment. It will be held from 2 to 6 p.m.

The day will feature more than 60 wines from Bucks County and beyond. Participating local wineries include , , Peace Valley, Sand Castle, and Chaddsford. There will also be wines to taste from all over, including selections from California, Chile, Italy, Argentina, and beyond. In addition to a variety of wine, there will be food from several Newtown restaurants, including , , , and

The $40 admission fee covers the food and wine tasting. For the designated drivers, a $10 ticket includes food tastings and nonalcoholic beverages. Tickets will be available at the door until the event sells out.

Welcome Day is Sunday. The street fair, hosted by the Newtown Business and Professional Association, will be held Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sycamore Street. It will feature music, food, arts and crafts, prizes, games, and “Kids Fun Zones” complete with a flight simulator. Welcome Day is free and open to the public.

New this year at Welcome Day is the Rising Star competition, which will feature former American Idol hopeful Devyn Rush as a judge. To read more about that competition, check out
