5. : Residents, students and community leaders gathered Friday in Newtown Borough for the annual Arbor Day celebration.

4. Anne Chapman prevailed over Helen Bosley in Tuesday's primary election and will face Democrat Steve Santarsiero in November.

3. : Christopher Brand, a spokesman for Giant, said the supermarket chain has not finalized a date for the store to change hands. "We do not know when the final regulatory approval decision will come," Brand said.

2. : The Newtown Township Board of Supervisors on Wednesday unanimously approved hiring Kurt Ferguson as the new township manager. Ferguson will replace Joe Czajkowski, who resigned April 1.

1. : The Council Rock School Board on Thursday approved a $202.7 million preliminary budget for 2012-2013, however the numbers may change before a final budget is adopted in June. If the preliminary budget is passed with no changes, residents can expect a 1.7 percent tax increase, according to district officials.
