Newtown Township Police have arrested 21-year-old Aloysius Carroll of Newtown Borough in connection with numerous thefts from vehicles in the area.

The Tri-Township U15 team this week moved into the championship round as the number one seed from the National Division in the Babe Ruth World Series. The national tournament is being held this week in Jamestown, N.Y.

No one was hurt and there was no damage in Newtown Township after a minor earthquake was felt throughout the region, police said. Tremors lasting roughly 10 seconds were reportedly felt throughout our region and the Northeast portion of the country after an earthquake struck in Virginia. The U.S. Geological Survey reported the epicenter of a 5.9 magnitude earthquake took place four miles from Louisa, Virginia at 1:51:03 p.m. Tuesday.

County, school and township officials are preparing for Hurricane Irene, which is expected to move into the region early Sunday morning, bringing with it heavy rains and strong wind. According to the National Weather Service, Irene will be a Category 2 hurricane when its eye moves past southern Delaware early Sunday morning with sustained winds of more than 73 mph.
