Siam Cuisine, a Thai restaurant in Newtown Township, has closed its doors. According to a sign posted on the door, the restaurant's last day was Jan. 1.

On Dec. 19, the Sycamore Grill opened for business in the space formerly occupied by Lilly’s Cucina Loca on Sycamore Street. The Sycamore Grill is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week.

Mike Gallagher was selected as chairman of the Newtown Township Board of Supervisors during a reorganization meeting Tuesday. Matt Benchener was selected as vice chairman.

Bob Walker was selected as president of Newtown Borough Council during a reorganization meeting Tuesday. Three council members were sworn in during the meeting -- incumbent Gerard O'Malley as well as recently-elected Republicans Bob King and Larry Auerweck.

Giant, a supermarket chain headquartered in Carlisle, announced Thursday it will purchase 16 Genuardi’s stores in the Greater Philadelphia region, including the one in Newtown. The transaction is expected to be complete by the middle of the year.
