A Conditional Use hearing on an application to put a Beneficial Bank on Sycamore Street was continued again by the Newtown Township Board of Supervisors on Monday. The hearing, which had been continued from the week before, will resume Dec. 7.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has announced that Washington Avenue will be closed between State Street and Sycamore Street beginning Monday, Nov. 28 to repair the bridge over Newtown Creek. The bridge, which is currently structurally deficient, should reopen by Dec. 9, according to PennDOT.

Newtown Patch caught up to some local shoppers on Black Friday. Shoppers visited several area stores, like , and , for holiday deals.

It’s that time of year for shopping and gift giving. And area merchants are urging Newtown residents to remember the importance of shopping local. The Newtown Bookshop even sent a message out to its patrons reminding them to shop local this holiday season.

The Newtown Township Board of Supervisors on Monday voted to advertise a 2012 budget that includes $10.6 million in operating expenditures. Officials said the budget includes no tax increase. In 2011, Newtown Township’s tax rate was 2.5 mils—or $94 for the average homeowner.
