Weather: After Damp Start, a Fine Week Ahead

We've had a rainy run the past couple of weeks– Philadelphia has picked up over four inches of rain since Aug. 1, with Reading and Allentown both pcking up over three inches of rain. Outside of a wet start to Monday, most of the week ahead should feature rather nice weather.

Monday's rainy start is associated with a disturbance that is riding along the cool front that pushed through the region on Friday night and Saturday. Once this gets out of the way later in the morning hours, Monday afternoon should wind up nice. The other potential chance of rain in the work week is on Wednesday, with a weak trough that will pass through the region and up the coast. It could trigger a few passing showers as it moves through.

Outside of Wednesday, the next chance of showers may not be until next Sunday or Monday with the approach of a cool front from the northwest. Temperatures this week will generally reside in the lower and mid-80s, with nighttime lows falling into the 60s after a cool Monday night. Monday night may bring the coolest lows we've seen since late June, with mid-50s common throughout the suburbs.

On a daylight-related note, we lose 15 minutes of daylight this week. Over the next six weeks, we go from about 13-and-a-half hours of day light to 11 hours and 50 minutes by the end of September. Daylight is slowly fleeting and the influence of summer is gradually waning. Before you know it, we'll be talking about frost and then snow.
