Weekend Planner: New Year's Eve Fun and More

Looking for something fun to do this weekend?

It's New Year's this weekend, so you might already have plans. If not, here's a few things to keep you busy as you usher in 2011.

Friday, Dec. 31

First Night Newtown: The alcohol-free, family-friendly New Year's Eve celebration will feature music, food, theatre, kids games and crafts, a parade, fireworks and more. The event takes place in three locations around Newtown: , and . The evening culminates with fireworks at . Entertainment begins at 5 p.m. and continues until 9:45, when a parade from the high school to the middle school begins. The fireworks begin at 10 p.m. First Night buttons are $10 and are good for admission to all entertainment.

Rockin the New Year: Families can also celebrate the start of 2011 with the Rockin the New Year party at the in Wrightstown Township. The party, which takes place in the library's community room, is geared towards kids and will feature movies, video games, board games, dancing and more. Festivities begin at 7 p.m. and go until 12:30 a.m. The event is free, but registration is required. Visit www.buckslib.org to register.

New Year's Eve sleepover: Have plans but no babysitter for the kids? You're in luck. The will host a sleepover for children from 7:30pm to 9 a.m. The party will feature gymnastics, dance and tae kwon do. The fee for residents is $67, nonresidents pay $77. Live music around town: Enjoy some live music, right here in Newtown. wil feature Live After Dark starting at 8:30 p.m. Midnight Java, a four-piece, Top 40 cover band, is playing at the Wing and a Prayer, a guitar blues band, will be live at (a $10 cover applies).

New Year's Yoga: So what if you drank a whole bottle of champagne last night? That's only more motivation to get healthy in 2011. Welcome in the New Year at Yogasphere in Newtown for an all-level detox vinyasa flow yoga class from noon to 2 p.m. $15. Registration recommended. Visit www.yogasphere.net for more information.

Cham-Pain 5K: Since we're on the topic of getting healthy, try your hand (or feet, rather) at a 5K. The race, which begins at noon at , is put on by the Bucks County Roadrunners. For more information, visit www.bcrr.info.
