Weekend Planner: Lots Of Local Holiday Cheer

There is a tree lighting, holiday parade, craft fair and more this weekend.

 

How did December get here already? How can we be expected to go from 65-degree days to preparing for Christmas? Guess we’ll have to figure that out starting this weekend. In between your shopping and merry-making, take some time out for yourself. Here are some options:

HOLIDAY GIFT & CRAFT MARKETPLACE

Where/when:  in Richboro, Friday at 5:30 p.m.

Why go: There will be more than 50 vendors, a caricaturist, raffles and a gold buyer. And you can support the local economy by buying from small, local businesses.

Where/when: The Newtown Fire Company on Liberty Street, Friday at 6:30 p.m.

Why go: Kick off the holiday season locally! Plus, Santa's House will open after so the kids can get free pictures with St. Nick.

Cost: Free!

Where/when: from 8 to 11 p.m. Saturday

Why go: For $20, you'll get food, beer/wine and a First Night button. The evening raises money for the annual New Year's Eve celebration.

Cost: $20 and all proceeds benefit First Night

Where/when:  in Richboro, Saturday, 2 p.m. 

Why go: In 1874, a young boy named Charley Ross was snatched from his front yard in Philadelphia and was never seen again. Author Carrie Hagen’s book “We is Got Him” tells the tale. Hagen is a teacher at Council Rock High School North.

Cost: Free!

Where/when: , Saturday at 8 a.m.

Why go: Proceeds benefit the Council Rock North Choir. The choir will perform holiday favorites and bring your camera for photos with Santa!

Cost: Adults are $7 and kids under 12 are $5

Where/when: Newtown Borough, Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Why go: You'll get to tour six private homes and six public buildings, all with historic significance. Tickets can be purchased in advance at All funds benefit the Newtown Historic Association

Cost: $25

NEWTOWN HOLIDAY PARADE

Where/when: Newtown, Sunday at 1 p.m.

Why go: The parade follows a route north on State Street from Stocking Works. From there, it makes a left onto Washington Avenue, then a right onto Sycamore Street. It ends at the  More than 30 groups are expected to participate.
