Wrightstown Farmers' Market Opens Saturday

The market, located at the Wrightstown Township Building on Second Street Pike, will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays through November.

It’s that time of year again.

You know, when your fruit is as juicy as nature intended and your vegetables are fresh. That’s because they haven’t been shipped hundreds of miles from a faraway place.

Begin reaping the benefits of farm fresh produce while supporting your local economy this weekend at the Wrightstown Farmers’ Market. The market, located in the lot at the Wrightstown Municipal Building on Second Street Pike, opens for the season Saturday.

While it’s still early in the growing season, several vendors will be there from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. offering locally-produced vegetables and products, including greens, poultry, eggs, nuts, bread, vegetables, baked goods, and much more.

You’ll be able to pick up not just delicious ingredients for your next meal, but also coffees, soaps, pottery, crafts, antique maps, etc.

The 2011 market is opening with even more vendors and activities than in the past.

Robin Hoy, the Wrightstown Farmers’ Market manager, said she’s excited to welcome new vendor Bruce Weiner, who makes handcrafted, custom tile mosaics and pottery, including mugs, bowls and covered pots.

The Lima Family Farm, which was one of the Wrightstown Farmers' Market’s earliest vendors and sold strawberries the first two years, has added more products to their lineup. They’ve since purchased a new farm and have expanded their offerings to include pasture-raised poultry and eggs, beef, lamb, and vegetables grown using organic techniques.

While the market is a great place to purchase groceries and support your local economy, it’s also simply a fun thing to do to get the weekend started off right. There’s live music and chef demonstrations. Plus, this year, there will be more family-friendly activities for customers to enjoy, Hoy said.

To kick things off Saturday, children will be given seeds to plant and take home along with a growing nasturtium flower to give to their moms for Mother's Day. “We'll also have free balloons and sidewalk chalk art,” Hoy noted.

The market will be open rain or shine Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through November. Check back to Patch as we explore the market and meet some of the local farmers producing your food. (Stay tuned…)
