Film Series Announced

The first movie of a
three-part First Friday Film Series on the topic of moral climate action will
be launched on Friday, April 4th at 7:00 p.m. with a showing of the
inspiring documentary Do the Math at the Newtown Friends

Meetinghouse, 219 Court Street in Newtown, followed by a group discussion.

The powerful 42-minute film has sparked a global grassroots movement aimed at educating and empowering concerned people to act to alleviate climate disruption.

According to the series’ hosts, Jasmine Spence of Newtown and Kathy Harr of Langhorne, both members of Newtown Quaker Meeting, “The mandate to be stewards of creation is held by every mainstream religious tradition, therefore making climate change and the threat it poses to all life on Earth a moral and spiritual dilemma--not just an economic or technical crisis.”

Harr and Spence initiated the film series in response to requests from many who had missed the previous showing of Do the Math at the Quaker Meetinghouse last spring, as well as from others in the Newtown area who previously have seen the film and wish to see it again as they seek to make a difference.

Harr and Spence said the discussion following the film will focus on meaningful climate action.  “It will aim at reversing climate disruption through personal choices and challenges to destructive fossil fuel projects.  We invite everyone to join us as we work together to be at peace with all life on our sacred planet.”
