Judgement Day

On Sunday, July 13th, Nectar Restaurant sommelier Scott Zoccolillo will host a blind taste test, featuring an array of Pennsylvania wines pitted against some of the most celebrated California reds and whites. Pennsylvania wines will be put to the test judging will be done by noted wine authorities. And you’ll have the chance to watch the action, nibble on some great cuisine and taste the wines to judge for yourself. Area wine-makers, cheese makers and farmers will be in attendance showcasing their products for sampling. Nectar’s chef Patrick Feury will also create a menu of delicious hor d’oeuvres from the products being showcased. Admission for the tasting is $65. Doors open at 5 p.m.

The inspiration for the event was the infamous Judgment of Paris that matched California wines against French wines in 1976. That event put California wineries on the map. Sommelier Zoccolillo prides himself in offering some of the best wines available in the state. In fact, for months now he has been raving about Pennsylvania wines. According to wine writer Brian Freedman, “Our area has never enjoyed a reputation as a hot-spot of international vinous intrigue.” Freedman believes that Pennsylvania wines are better than ever. “Now more than at any time I remember in the past, brave winemakers and grape-growers are focusing on the varieties that will thrive best in their own little pocket of the commonwealth and producing wine with both character and charm.”

Chef Feury’s Asian inspired Nectar Restaurant in Berwyn, features a menu with a wide variety of options: dim sum style dishes ideal for sharing, à la carte offerings of land and sea, and artfully prepared sushi made from freshly caught fish.
