Fundraiser for Autism Service Dog is Saturday at Smoothie King

Smoothie King will donate $1 to the Rosenburg family, who has been raising money for the service dog for their autistic son, Marcus.

Smoothie King is holding a fundraiser this Saturday for a local family who is raising $5,000 for a service dog. For every smoothie sold Saturday, Smoothie King will donate $1 to the Rosenburg family, who has been raising money for the service dog for their autistic son, Marcus.

Smoothie King is located at 2112 S Eagle Rd.

Marcus' mother Karen Rosenburg said the autism service dog will have many potential benefits for her son, who was diagnosed with autism at the age of 4. She said the family is almost at their $5,000 goal and hope that the Smoothie King fundraiser will get them all the way there.

Later this month, Marcus will meet three dogs and the trainers will determine which dog is the best match for him, she said. “The dog that is selected will then receive a few more weeks of training and then the dog will be placed with us. So if all goes well we should have the dog placed just after the holidays,” Rosenburg said.

Marcus, who is in the autism support class at Goodnoe Elementary School, won’t take the dog to class on a daily basis, his mother said. But she said she hopes the dog can be a guest in the classroom from time to time.
