Lauren's Construction Fund Among Local GoFundMe Campaigns

The online campaign seeks to raise $75,000 for construction improvements needed to make Lauren Shevchek's home handicap friendly.

Friends and family of a local 19-year-old who was injured during a June diving accident are working to raise money on her behalf.

A campaign on GoFundMe.com seeks to raise money for construction costs needed to renovate the home of Lauren Shevchek, who is now quadriplegic as a result of her injuries. Shevchek, an experienced swimmer who competed for Council Rock South, suffered the debilitating injury during what family members described as a “freak accident.”

The online campaign, created by Kathy McKelvey Schieber, seeks to raise $75,000 for improvements to Shevchek's parents split-level home.

"Because of her condition Lauren is need of many things for a handicapped person. Her parents home is an older split level which is not disabled friendly. An addition needs to built onto the home in order to have some reasonable quality of her life," according to the campaign description.

"For example in the home's current state, she cannot even get a shower. I watch as this family is doing the best they can with what they have but I am asking everyone that can help out in establishing a construction fund to give what they can."
