Do dogs wear hats? Next month in Doylestown they will.
On May 3, Roxy Reading Therapy Dogs will host the second annual Strut Your Mutt at Fanny Chapman Park.
Pet owners and their dogs will celebrate Kentucky Derby Day by donning hats and enjoying the festivities, including a couture dog and human hat design area, pet portraits, a puppy kissing booth, dogs available for adoption, a demonstration with The Pet Campus and more.
Entertainment will be provided by Tohickon Middle School Chamber Choir, there will be numerous vendors and food. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
At 10:30 a.m., dogs and their owners will “strut their stuff” and show off their Kentucky derby hats in a parade around Doylestown lead by Mayor Ron Strouse. The parade will culminate in “The Winner’s Circle” where judges will give awards for “Best Doggy Derby,” “Best Owner-Dog Look-a-Like,” and “Best Homemade Hat.”
All dogs are invited to strut, not just therapy dogs.
Proceeds from this event benefit Roxy Reading Therapy dogs, a nonprofit organization dedicated to children. Roxy Reading’s certified emotional therapy dogs teams promote literacy and provide comfort to elementary school children, bring comfort and calm to young victims of crime and deliver canine companionship to medically fragile patients at Pedia Manor.
The all-volunteer organization relies solely on donations. All visits are free of charge to families, schools and taxpayers.
