Farmers Market to Celebrate Opening Day on Saturday

The Wrightstown Farmers Market will be held every Saturday until Thanksgiving. Opening day activities include live music, free plants and monster bubble blowing for the kids.

Locavores rejoice: the Wrightstown Farmers Market opens for the 2013 season this weekend.

The market, which sells locally-produced vegetables, meat, dairy products and more, will be held every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. until Thanksgiving.

Sponsored by the Bucks County Foodshed Alliance, the weekly market is held at the Wrightstown Township Municipal Building parking lot, 2203 Second Street Pike.

This year, there will be 30 vendors selling their own farm products and handmade items, according to information provided by market organizers.

Opening day festivities include a 9 a.m. ribbon cutting ceremony, free plants to the first 75 customers and monster bubble blowing for the kids. Plus, the Goose Creek Pioneers will be at the market on opening day performing live folk music.

Items that will be sold include: 

  • Asparagus, tender broccoli rabe, dandelion greens, assorted kale varieties, lettuce, radishes, spinach, stinging nettle and Swiss chard
  • Fresh, hormone and antibiotic-free, pasture-raised chicken, pork and 100 percent grass-feed beef
  • Cow and goat milk cheeses, smoothies, yogurt and milk
  • Foraged wild mushrooms, ramps, fiddleheads, morels and cultivated mushrooms
  • Prepared foods like pickles, sauces, fruit butters, apple juice, gluten free and vegan products, organic nut butters and a variety of nuts
  • Artisanal breads and baked goods
  • All-natural dog food and treats
  • Fair trade, organic, locally roasted coffee
  • Handmade soaps and lotions
  • Garden ornaments, birdhouses, and trellises, all made from natural local materials
  • Local crafts, jewelry and more
