Newtown Girls Hope to Continue Charity Effort

Dona Lisciotto and Emma Lambert-Waldmann hope to continue to be able to make dresses for needy girls around the world.

 

Dresses with LovE started as a for two local teens.

Now that the girl scouts have met and surpassed their inital goal, it appears Dresses with LovE will likely continue into the future.

Longtime friends, classmates and neighbors Dona Lisciotto and Emma Lambert-Waldmann began procuring materials to making dresses for impoverished and orphaned girls in Mabopane, South Africa in early 2012.

As of Monday night, the girls have over 75 dresses that will be shipped to South Africa, a nation which still suffers from the lasting effects of apartheid.

Everyone from a group of seniors in Bensalem to members of the community with some free time have helped with the project. The girls said they appreciate the support they’ve received from locals.

“It’s been very rewarding,” Dona said.

The huge outpouring of support has motivated Dona and Emma to keep working to make dresses for girls in need around the world.

Emma said she was inspired to start the project to help the African girls after visiting the orphanage in Mabopane as a child.

“The part that struck me the most when I visited was that even these kids who had nothing were as happy as ever,” the incoming Council Rock High School North freshman said. The incoming dresses are expected to make the African girls even happier.

The dresses the local scouts have collected and made will be on display through Friday at the .
