Hanukkah Begins Sundown Wednesday, Local Events Planned

Celebrate Hanukkah with these local observations.

Hanukkah, also known as the Festival of Lights, begins at sundown Wednesday and goes until Dec. 5. The Jewish holiday commemorates the story of the Maccabean Revolt against Syrian rulers in present day Israel 2,300 years ago.

Here's a look at local celebrations and observances:

  • Chanukah Wonderland is now open at the Village at Newtown South, 2116 S. Eagle Rd. Hours are Sunday 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Wednesday 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. and 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. There are various children’s activities planned; click here for a full schedule.
  • The Friendship Circle at Lubavitch of Bucks County, 25 N State St., Newtown, will hold a Hanukkah party on Dec. 2 at 4 p.m.
  • There will be a menorah lighting on Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. at Lubavitch of Bucks County, 25 N State St., Newtown.
  • Maccabeats will perform live on Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m. at Lubavitch of Bucks County, 25 N State St., Newtown.
  • The Women of Shir Ami will old a Hanukkah party at 7 p.m. on Dec. 3
