Holiday Parade Marches On Through Snow

Snow fell during the Newtown Holiday Parade Sunday afternoon.

Crowds gathered on State and Sycamore streets to watch Newtown's annual Holiday Parade despite snowy conditions Sunday afternoon.

Forecasters had predicted light snow for Sunday, however actual snowfall accumulated beyond expectations.

That didn't stop the Newtown Holiday Parade, though. The parade featured dozens of floats, including a gingerbread house created by the Newtown Athletic Club, and a giant shopping cart by McCaffrey's.

Plus, there were marching bands, boy and girl scouts, classic cars, dancers and more. The grand finale, as usual, was Santa riding on the back of a Newtown Fire Association truck.

Mick Petrucci, president of the Newtown Business Association, which organizes the parade, said everything went smoothly despite the weather. He said there were some cancellations due to the snow and turnout seemed lower than usual.
