Chip Kelly Hiring Offers Hope for Philadelphia Eagles

New Philadelphia Eagles coach Chip Kelly plans a high-powered offense and attacking defense for Birds.

He seemed geniune. He appeared engaging. And he certainly was humble.

Chip Kelly, the new coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, is no Andy Reid. And that was evident during his press conference Thursday in which he was introduced as coach and presented to the Philly media.

Kelly showed charisma and charm. He showed emotion. And he offered something that Philadelphia Eagles fans have been seeking for some time: hope.

What the former University of Oregon coach will also bring is a high-powered offense and attacking defense.

Now that Kelly is on board as the 21st coach in franchise history, the next agenda item is creating his coaching staff. Kelly needs to surround himself with some solid people, just like Andy Reid did when he first started as coach.

Kelly said he comes in with no preconceived notions.

He will study the film tape before making any roster decisions. He's looking for certain types of players who are interested in winning.

So who knows whether Nick Foles will start at quarterback or if Michael Vick will be retained.

In other words, Philly fans should be thrilled. That's because Kelly may just restore that Philly "blue collar" mentality that fans know and love.

If anything, he won't take anything less than 100 percent. And after watching this team for the past two years, that will be a refreshing change.

So far, Kelly is saying all the right things. Fans should be excited.

But it's a long wait-and-see period. There's free agency, the draft, camps and the pre-season -- a long way to go before the real games count.

So be hopeful. But also be patient.

This turnaround could take awhile.

I was hoping for Jon Gruden, but hopefully Kelly can dhip in and get these guys going in the right direction.

I think Kelly said all the right things when it comes to building a winner. His track record indicates he can do what he says he will do. That is refreshing evidence that he is a good choice. Time will tell, but I am optimistic.

The Eagles needed a change and I believe Chip Kelly will bring about a positive change in the team. Hey when you have a splinter in your foot you pull it out so that you can run more effectively! That's what the Eagles did with Andy Reid!
