Truck Traffic on Swamp Road: From the Patch Boards

A resident shares his concerns about truck traffic on Swamp Road.

When is something going to be done about the "Quarry Truck" Traffic on Swamp Road onward to the Bypass?
Swamp Road is slowly disintegrating because of the weight of these trucks coupled with the winter weather. Three accidents...two yesterday..one today! You take your life in your hand pulling out of Tyler State Park!
Something needs to be done with this traffic.
In addition, the trucks will run you off the road because they can't break.

Your most recent comments have been forwarded to the editor of the "Patch". Unbelievable. You cannot even have a conversation or post something worthwhile without insulting everyone. As mentioned previously I was only looking for answers to a question. I was not looking for sarcasm! You lose! I win!

I completely support Johnny's comments! While this issue may have many years of conversation behind it, there is not currently a consensus or good solution on the table. There will always be tension between the rights of property owners who want peace and quiet (and to maintain their property values) and businesses who are engaged in legitimate enterprise. However, the sheer volume and noise of the traffic on Swamp Road is inconsistent with the quality of life that Newtown and surrounding area residents expect. There are vehicles going (barrelling) down Swamp Road at 3 in the morning. We could be living by the airport if you went by sound alone. As for "don't live there", well, Swamp Road is how long (15, 20 miles?). Not a helpful suggestion. And, there is no real estate "disclosure" for folks buying these houses that helps them understand the noise issue before purchase. I would appreciate a conversation about limiting traffic to normal business hours, enforcing speed and weight restrictions, installing "green" sound barriers along the roadside and providing alternative routes (that don't impinge on other residential areas). It would also be helpful to understand the life cycle of the quarries - is this a temporary problem or are they likely to provide a rumbling soundtrack to our backyard respite for many years to come?
