Police pursuit started in Newtown, ended in a crash.

One man is in custody after a police pursuit down Interstate 95 that injured a 42-year-old woman, according to officials.

It began just before 2 p.m. Sunday in Newtown.

Witness and victim Jamell Creque said the police told him the driver of the Toyota stole the vehicle from his aunt the night before and was spotted by police in Newtown after stealing gas. Shortly thereafter,  a pursuit ensued with the driver heading southbound on I-95 south toward Route 1.

During the chase, the driver struck a Lower Makefield officer’s patrol car, according to a witness. Several moments later, Creque said his SUV was hit.

Creque, of Trenton, said he and his family were heading into the city when the fleeing driver struck their Acura Infinity SUV near the Langhorne exit on I-95 southbound.

"We were just driving along and I heard loud bang on the passenger’s side," Creque said.

Creque said he believes that driver lost control before striking his SUV.

"(He) hit hard enough for airbag to deploy on the passenger’s side," Creque said.

Creque said he believed that driver was trying to pass him from the right side, while fleeing police, when he skidded across two lanes.

"After he hit me on the passenger’s side, he flipped on the median," Creque said.

Creque, 38, said his wife, 42, sustained minor injuries. She was treated and released from Aria Health Center. Their two sons, ages 5 and 8, were not injured.

The driver was taken into custody after a short foot pursuit in a wooded area near I-95 and Trenton Road overpass in Middletown Township, according to reports.

The driver, described as a black man in his 20s, was transported to Aria Health in Falls Township, treated and taken into police custody.

His identity and charges he faces were not immediately available.
