A passing motorist reported seeing a 200-pound black bear walking in the area of St. Andrew Elementary School on Wrights Road, police said.

Newtown Township Police said they received a call at 10:40 a.m. Friday from the motorist, who said the bear walked into a brushy area next to the school.

An officer searched the area and only found two landscapers cutting grass on the property. They told the officer they did not see a bear.

The officer searched the surrounding area with no observation or evidence of the reported bear.

It's nice to see that the environment can support a diverse population of animal life. Alternatively, it might have been Brian Walstrum looking for a lacrosse ball.

With all the species going extinct these days, it's nice to see that at least some animals actually making a comeback. I hope people in Newtown don't freak out about this. Blackbears are timid, totally non-threatening creatures.
