Former South Student Stole Electronics From Peers, Police Say

Gytis Alekperlis stole iPads, iPods and iPhones from Council Rock South students and Newtown Athletic Club members, according to Newtown Township Police.

A 20-year-old Northampton man has been charged with 23 counts of felony theft for stealing electronics from Council Rock High School South as well as the Newtown Athletic Club, Newtown Township Police said.

Gytis Alekperlis allegedly stole “numerous electronic devices” from fellow students in 2010, when he was a student of Council Rock South. Police said Alekperlis worked at the Newtown Athletic Club, where he also stole various electronics, including iPhones, iPads and iPods,

Police said he stole the electronics in 2012 from members' lockers and cars.

Alekperlis sold the stolen items online through eBay or Craigslist, to various "unsuspecting" buyers throughout the United States and Europe, police said.

He was arraigned in district court and bail was set at $200,000.
